The Edinlight Essay Prize

Overview

To enter the Edinlight Essay Prize, students must submit an essay in two parts - arguing persuasively both for and against the proposition: transwomen are women.

The deadline for entries is 14 January 2024, and winners will be announced in April 2024.

Winners and prizes:

The first prize is £10,000, with two runners-up prizes of £1,000 and a number of honourable mentions who will each receive £250. To win a prize you need a UK bank account.

Eligibility:

You must be resident in the UK and matriculated as an undergraduate student at any UK university. You must also agree to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Essay structure and formatting:

Your submission must begin with the required personal information, followed by your acceptance of the terms and condition. Next must be the 2 sections arguing for and against the proposition, neither part should exceed 2,000 words. We provide a downloadable Essay Template to help you submit your essay in the desired format.

Judging criteria:

Entries will be assessed according to the following criteria:

• Persuasiveness of both arguments
• Quality of writing

Admin and communication:

Essays must be submitted by the deadline (see below), from your own university email address.

Copyright:

You retain copyright in your work, and assign us a licence to use your work.
